Viewers tuning in from the www.benrowe.co.uk channel will notice that the website hasn't been updated since 28th November. It's been updated a couple of times since then, but a gremlin in the works has reverted it back to this earlier date. I'm hoping to have the site back to normal very soon...

Post-Peel

I enjoy taking part in exhibitions, but Eclectic Peel had that extra something to it for many reasons. Not only was is a damn fine tribute to one of the true greats, but it was a culmination of what must have been a challenging exhibition to put on: a group of artists from different disciplines (and locations!) showing and performing their own unique take on John Peel. I also got to meet people I have only worked with over the internet and have never met! Namely Halina and Sophie of Glasgow Podcart and my partner in the project Michael Corr.

This was also the first time I'd got to see the 'Peel Tent' in the flesh...or the vinyl. The credit for the blood, sweat and tears of the final piece lays with Michael who not only scoured the land for the right materials to use, but also transported it from Dundee to Glasgow and put it up in its concrete field.

I was stunned when I saw the tent - the graphics and the illustrations that I'd only seen on my computer screen finally took on a life of their own. The layout of our work was spot on. Not only did it look good and encourage the viewer to scour every inch to discover the work, but it also looked impressive when taking it all in from a distance.

The other highlight of the day (this is before all of the evening's events!) was discovering we'd got a full page in the arts section of The Herald. Apologies to the newsagent who I left dry of copies.

The evening itself was excellent: the neon pink hue of the Barras Centre adding to the warmth being generated inside on a bitterly cold evening outside where music, whisky, cupcakes and kind comments flowed. Peel posters and badges were bought so thank you to those who bought some and to those who stopped to talk about the tent.

John Peel exhibition

I'm damn chuffed to announce that I'll be taking part in Glasgow PodcART's John Peel exhibition 'Eclectic Peel'.

The lovely folk who run the Scottish based music/ arts website Glasgow PodcART have paired up over 20 artists/ musicians/ painters to create pieces based on the late, great John Peel.

I've been paired up with the Scottish artist/ designer Michael Corr and together we have created a 'Peel Tent'. The event is taking place at Glasgow's Barras Centre from 4th - 11th December and entry is free!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to 'Random Drift' during the week and on the private view night. The private view night was a great success and I even managed to sell one or two bits of work! If you bought one (or two...) you have my eternal thanks.

Big thanks go out to Helen for getting the show together in the first place and making it run smoothly. She combined a great group of artists together and made it the success it was! Thanks also to Cirillo at Et Cetera gallery who put the show up and was a general star all round. If you need a gallery space, Et Cetera is the place! While I'm in thanking mode, thanks to everyone who helped out on the night with the constant serving and pouring of the booze :)

From behind the scenes here thanks, as always, to Nina who was influential in what went up (and what didn't) and the fact that it looked so good when it was up! xxx

I hope to have prints from the show up for sale very soon (possibly in a new on-line shop) and maybe even some photos from the show. Keep an eye on the website.

The only time I read the labels on food is a) to see what it is I'm buying (I find this helps) and b) to very occasionally to see what the ingredients are. I have little or no regard for the fat/ salt/ sugar/ crap content. Chances are, the higher the crap content, the better it tastes. I do eat a lot of fruit and veg, exercise...but that's nothing to do with you!

Enjoy your food and live a little...

(footnote: the version of this cartoon (can you call it that?) on the website is the one I had in my head. This version is the fully-loaded, fleshed-out, I'll go large on that, family deluxe size meal deal version.)

So it goes...

I have an idea that these blog things need updating more than once in a while. So what's new?

Well, there will be no Calendar for 2008 which is sad as I've done one for each of the last 3 years (2007 being my first 'professional' one). I hope to have one out for 2009 with new material to grace each month. If you're interested in a 2009 Calendar, let me know via the website.

I was almost resigned to not having an Xmas card design to offer in some shape or form either this year, but inspiration has struck! I'll post the result as my final 'Picture of the Week' for 2007 in a few weeks time.

That's about it for now. If anyone's reading this, thanks for doing so :)
